XO, Jociepoo: An Interview With Jocelyn Shelfo

By: Emma Sikes

This week, I interviewed someone who I am immensely proud to call my friend, Jocelyn Shelfo. You may have seen her strutting the streets of Savannah sporting that downright infectious smile, or on your TV as “Madison Miller” in Jenny Han’s newest banger, “XO, Kitty”. It was so easy and fun to chat with her, I almost forgot this was a super serious, professional, and ground-breaking interview. So read on, if you dare to learn more about this kind, hilarious, and all around amaze-balls lady!

Emma Sikes: What are your four most used emojis right now?

Jocelyn Shelfo: Lemme look, actually I don’t use emojis.

ES: Really?

JS: No. I do.

ES: Are you the kind of emoji user who feels your question needs an emoji before you send it out? It’s not ready until it has emojis to soften the blow of your text?

JS: I guess it depends on what I’m asking, most times I’ll use the finger emojis, which are in my top 3. I also love the wincing one, as a “I’m gonna be late, eek” or “I just shat myself, eek”.

ES: Are you on the dating apps ?

JS: No, I was at one point and I'm not anymore.

ES: Yeah, they're horrible. Will you be logging back on when you get home?

JS: Probably not.

ES: Ah, you’re into the old fashion way of meeting?

JS: Not necessarily, But I think I'm really scared of getting perceived publicly, by people.

ES: People screenshotting your super earnest and silly profile and maybe not getting it?

JS: Yes, that’s more of my fear. I never really meet people in person though. *wincing emoji

ES: You walk into a bar and the tender has a towel over his shoulder, what drink do you order?

JS: Oh, a dirty Martini, vodka. Is it important that he has a towel thrown over his shoulder?

ES: Yes.

JS: Ok, yeah, I’d order then I’d ask for his number.

ES: Yum! “filthy Martini, what’s your digits?” Cake or Pie?

JS: Ice cream cake. I don’t like regular cake, and I don’t like baked fruits, soggy, warm apples? My nightmare. They look like they’ve already been eaten and digested then served.

ES: Have you ever thought about a stage name (or is Jocelyn Shelfo already your stage name)?

JS: I’ve always thought about it, but I think it’s too late to change my name now. But I love the name Addison.

ES: Has someone ever mispronounced (your now confirmed real) name?

JS: People say Josilyn or Shelflo, but when people nickname me, on their own volition, it makes me so happy, sometimes people will just start calling me Joce, and I’m like “WE MUST NOW STAY TOGETHER FOREVER”.

ES: LOVE nicknames.

JS: Yeah, but you have to come into it on your own, I can’t tell you to call me Joce, or Pookie, or Jocie poo.

ES: POOKIE?!

JS: If you please.

ES: Do you believe in aliens, Pookie?

JS: There was a time where I was like, YES, 100 percent. Now I’m like I think that there’s something out there but I don’t know if it’s what we all think, is alien. But I definitely think the government is hiding something from us, and the Grand Canyon is used to hide all the aliens and the stuff they’re secretly doing.

ES: So we’ll check out the Grand Canyon for sure.

JS: I went once, white-water rafting down the Grand Canyon for 8 days, and we’re in the middle of the frickin river and I’m looking up and I see, in the wall, there’s wires going through a hole, and it was way in the distance.

ES: OMG! What were those for? That’s something we’re not supposed to know about. Wait, you camped for 8 days?

JS: Yeah, it was so fun, I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking it was daytime because the moon was so bright, and you could see the milky way, kind of. It's crazy. Not on my trip, but it was lore that someone sat on a scorpion and killed it, with their butt.

ES: That’s one strong butt. This next question is from Trixie and Maeve from North Carolina; Who’s your favorite character in "XO, Kitty"?

JS: Min Ho. He’s so funny, I’m a New Girl fan and Schmidt’s my favorite character, Min Ho is like this generation's Schmidt. When he leans over to go hug Dae, when they’re sleeping, it’s just so good! It’s so funny! Everything he does really, is so funny.

ES: Do you have a favorite costume of Madison’s ?

JS: Oh that’s hard! I loved the fit from the party, those earrings?! Loved the buns in my hair, also loved my hair in the hiking scene, I had never worn my hair slicked back like that. I was vibing with it.

ES: Did you get to take any clothes?

JS: No, but they did dye my hair, I don’t know if people know that, I’m not a real red-head.

ES: REVEAL! Did you take anything from the set?

JS: Just the chair with my name on it, nothing else. Just my memories.

ES: Best memory from set and your time in Korea?

JS: They did have really good food, I just really loved hanging out with everybody, sometimes we would get into weird moods where we would be so silly, like punch drunk from tiredness, and be so super giggly.

ES: And Lastly, If you could have a lifetime supply of anything, what would it be?

JS: Heelys.

Go, right now if you haven't already, and binge watch "XO, Kitty". BTW this interview is totally non-spons (sponsored), BOOBEES true intention was to fully encapsulate the absolute ball of joy, that is, Jocelyn Shelfo. #missionaccomplished #XOBOOBEES
