From movies to music and even cocktails… overall culture is just not as fun anymore! Who remembers Ke$ha? That’s a lady who knew how to have a good time. Now we have artists making maybe the saddest music I’ve ever heard. Movies aren’t even fun anymore. Where are the fun, silly, and star-studded rom-coms? We don’t have any more slapstick comedies… just depressing or terrifying stories. And yes, they’re good, great even. If you want to chat about the horrifying yet oddly comforting Midsommar, I’m your gal. But sometimes a lady just wants to have a little giggle! Even cocktails have lost their fun. We stopped sippin on vodka Red Bulls and instead started drinking tequila sodas… ew! I feel like everywhere I go, people are just not having a good enough time. I know what you’re thinking: We’ve heard this one before and collectively decided it’s because of social media. Honestly I agree, but I think we’ve had social media for long enough to ignore it. I mean for fucks sake why do we all care so much????
I decided about two months ago that I, personally, don’t give a fuck. I haven’t wanted to take a perfect picture for “the gram” since around the time that I saw The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (late Novemb) and believe it or not, my life has gotten exponentially better. This might get a little preachy but bear with me because I really think you all need to hear it. I stopped giving a fuck when I realized that it was kind of killing me. I want to do and post whatever the fuck I want and I found myself exhausted trying to keep up with everything. It's not fun And If it’s not fun I’m not doing it anymore. My gal pal and CEO of Boobees, Emma Sikes, is the leader of this “let us all have fun and find joy” revolution. We have a ritual of being crazy and fun 20-somethings every single Thursday, we drink and dance and gossip and giggle all night long. Talk about a fun time. Nobody is doing it like us. We don’t go out just to take a good picture, we go out to have fun. It's better than any medication on the market. We do crazy things like flirting (omg), and talking to people we don’t know (whaaat?) and most importantly, we’re just wholly IN THE MOMENT. I can’t even explain how much my life has improved since I dedicated one day a week to just HAVING FUN.
It might not be “revolutionary” to you, dear reader, but I really don’t know anyone else doing it. What’s the cure to this zero-fun lifestyle you ask? I'm not sure… but I think we need to bring back movies like Bridesmaids, Superbad, and The Hangover or it might kill us! Ask yourself: when was the last time you did something crazy like bashing a giant cookie at your best friend's bridal shower, or getting a fake ID with the name Muhammed on it, or breaking into Mike Tyson’s house and stealing his pet tiger? I’m not telling you all to endanger your lives or spend all of your money, but I’m URGING you to have a drink with your friends and forget your phone for three hours. It’s totally killing the vibe every time you pick it up to check your socials.
Another idea: Let’s bring back Ke$ha and her vibe. I would like to “brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack”! I would like to “don’t stop make it pop DJ blow my speakers up tonight”! I literally just want to have fun. I want to go skinny dipping in the ocean and flirt with someone just for the hell of it. I want to do something just because it’s going to give me a little thrill, and guess what, I am. It’s been changing my life. I don’t want to care anymore so I’m not. I’m declaring it right here and now that I don’t care anymore and I will do whatever is fun. “Doing it for the plot” as the kids say. I’m telling myself that these moments are stories for my grandkids. I’m going crazy for the grandkids! I urge you all to do the same. This weekend, go out with your friends and do the craziest thing you can imagine… even if it’s just talking to that one guy you always see at the bar that you think is the bee's knees. You never know when you might have the most fun night of your life.
I leave you with this: Ke$ha would never wait for the “right moment” to have a good time.
